Do these 5 steps first
This booklet addresses "how to organize records and documents." It is not personal medical advice, nor does it judge for you whether your child is suitable for a certain vaccine, whether a certain dose is needed, or how to catch it up.
What are NIP, AIR and Statement respectively?
National Immunization Program (NIP) is a national immunization program jointly implemented by the Australian Federation and states/territories. The Department of Health, Disability and Aging releases the NIP Schedule, which explains the recommended vaccines and schedule points for different age groups and groups. The official schedule will be updated, and families should refer to the current page and PDF. Do not use social media screenshots or old forms to deduce their children's personal arrangements.
The official children's page states that children aged 0-4 years have a range of routine immunisations; NIP eligibility, the child's individual circumstances and possible additional risk conditions will affect what is available. NIP vaccines may be free, but the vaccination provider may still charge a consultation fee or service charge; ask first when making an appointment.
- NIP: Official recommendation and funding framework.
- AIR (Australian Immunization Register): A national register that records vaccine information reported in Australia; children's records have been held in AIR since 1996, extending to all ages since 2016.
- Immunisation History Statement: supporting documentation generated from AIR. The full statement will show immunisations reported to AIR after January 1, 1996, and can also show logged statuses such as active catch-up schedule, medical contraindication or natural immunity.
Official entry point: National Immunisation Program Schedule; What an immunisation history statement is.
How to get your child’s Immunization History Statement
Parents or carers can obtain a child's statement when the child is under 14 years old. The most convenient path is usually:
1. Log in to myGov and open your linked Medicare online account. 2. Select immunization history / proof of vaccinations and select the child’s name. 3. Download the Complete immunization history statement and check the page for status, name, date of birth and the most recent record.
If you can't use Medicare online, you can also:
- Use the myGov app;
- Ask vaccination provider to print;
- Call the Australian Immunization Register: 1800 653 809 and ask for a statement; Services Australia says it may take up to 14 days to post;
- Obtained through My Health Record, but first use still requires linking the account in the official way.
After the child is 14 years old or above, for privacy reasons, the child usually needs to obtain the statement himself; parents need to agree to obtain the statement each time and complete identity verification. Don’t understand “the same Medicare card” as meaning that parents can have unlimited substitutions.

What should I do if the AIR record is missing, duplicated or the name is wrong?
Breaking the problem into three categories will make it easier to deal with:
Recently played but not shown yet
- Wait a few days before refreshing or re-downloading the statement.
- If it is still missing, contact the actual vaccination provider and ask the provider to update the vaccination report to AIR.
- Ask the provider when to submit, and whether childcare / school requires you to submit existing documents first.
Overseas vaccinations are not included in AIR
- Start by preparing a complete record, date of vaccination, vaccine name, child’s name and date of birth.
- Submit the records to the Australian vaccination provider for verification; do not translate overseas brand names into Australian vaccine names on your own.
- The provider will check and re-enroll according to the official schedule, and discuss the catch-up pathway when necessary.
Profile error on AIR
- If a name, date of birth or other identity details are incorrect, ask Services Australia for the path to correction.
- Don’t let childcare rely on a parent statement instead of a formal AIR document; correct the identity information first and then obtain a new statement.
If the provider says it has been updated but the files are still inconsistent, keep the appointment record, the old statement, the provider's confirmation and the deadline you submitted to the service agency, and then contact AIR to ask about next steps. Do not repeat vaccinations to "fix" a record; the need for any medical action can only be determined by a qualified health professional.

Overseas vaccine records: what to bring and who to give it to
The basic path given on the children's page of the Department of Health, Disability and Aging is to bring overseas immunization records to Australian vaccination providers in English. The provider will:
- Check records according to current NIP Schedule;
- Identify records that may be missing or require further verification;
- arrange catch-up procedures where applicable;
- Add overseas vaccines to AIR.
It is recommended to prepare a document package before departure:
If the record is not in English, the official children's page is directed to the Home Affairs Free Translating Service; availability depends on family status and service conditions. Look at the current official qualifications first, and do not take whether private translations are accepted as a national rule.
Official entry point: Getting vaccinated; Services Australia: immunisation requirements.
Without Medicare: Separate “Record” and “Free Eligibility” First
Not having Medicare does not mean that there is no AIR record, nor does it mean that the pickup steps of Medicare online can be directly applied. The official path to Services Australia is:
1. Create or log in to your myGov account. 2. Link the Individual Healthcare Identifiers (IHI) service to myGov. 3. Use the child's IHI to enter proof of vaccinations, and then view the history. 4. Select Complete immunization history statement PDF, or join Apple / Google Wallet on your phone (if your device supports it).
Two things need to be distinguished at the same time:
- AIR/statement: is the record and proof path;
- NIP Free Vaccine Eligibility, CCS / FTB Part A Eligibility: Check according to the current eligibility rules of the Department of Health and Services Australia respectively. It cannot be inferred that all fees or benefits are automatically established just because the statement is obtained.
If the IHI has not been established, identity data matching fails or the system cannot be linked, follow Services Australia's IHI / AIR contact path directly; do not create the child's identity again, and do not replace it with someone else's Medicare details.

No Jab No Pay: It governs family welfare, not the same as state child care law
For Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A or child care fee assistance, Services Australia requires children under 20 years of age to meet immunization requirements. The three officially listed states are:
- Comply with the Department of Health, Disability and Aging’s age-appropriate early childhood vaccination schedule;
- Participate in the approved catch-up schedule according to the current Australian Immunization Handbook;
- Have medical contraindication or natural immunity and have it recorded in AIR.
This is the context where parents often say No Jab No Pay. Here are the federal payment rules:
- CCS / ACCS may be affected; if the child stops meeting the requirements, the Services Australia page states that there are 63 days to start meeting the requirements again, after which the subsidy may stop and a new CCS claim needs to be submitted;
- FTB Part A may be reduced. The current page of Services Australia lists that each child who does not meet the requirements will be reduced by up to $36.54 per fortnight; the amount and page will change, and you must return to the official page to check before re-applying or distributing;
- The vaccination provider will update vaccination, catch-up or recorded status to AIR; parents generally do not need to notify Services Australia after each vaccination.
Vaccination objections for non-medical reasons are not approved exemptions under No Jab No Pay. Medical contraindication or natural immunity can only be recorded by qualified health professionals in accordance with official rules. Parents should not fill in the exemption themselves.
Official entry point: What are immunisation requirements - Child Care Subsidy; Immunisation medical contraindication or natural immunity.
No Jab No Play / State childcare rules: Check by state before entering childcare
States or territories can have their own early childhood education and care, preschool, kindergarten or school document requirements. Federal No Jab No Pay does not automatically answer "Which document does this childcare accept?" The same AIR statement may be the common basis for records across the country, but the newness of the document, catch-up wording, admissibility and outbreak exclusion must be checked against the local official page.
The verified public paths are as follows:
- NSW: NSW Health childcare and preschool entry; and NSW Government vaccination requirements. Page description childcare enrollment requires approved AIR documentation, which can show up to date, recognized catch-up, or documented medical reason.
- Victoria: Vic.gov.au how to enrol in child care; No Jab No Play legislation. Page description services usually require a current AIR Immunization History Statement; a GP or local council letter is not a substitute for this admission process.
- Queensland: Queensland Health childcare immunization requirements. The page explains that services may require an official AIR statement or recognized provider letter, and asks parents to check the policy with the specific service.
- Western Australia: HealthyWA starting or moving child care, kindergarten or school. The page explains that the AIR statement is part of the enrollment documentation; the page also explains that children born overseas or without Medicare can still establish an AIR record.
- South Australia: SA Education immunization requirements for early childhood services. The page lists record checks for enrolment and subsequent schedule points, and requires current record, catch-up status, or approved exemption.
- Australian Capital Territory: ACT vaccinations before school or child care. The page explains that an immunization record must be provided during enrollment and that exclusion may occur during an outbreak.
- Tasmania: Tasmania immunizing your child. The page describes school enrollment asking about vaccinations and providing verification paths for myGov, Medicare online, Express Plus Medicare and AIR.
- Northern Territory: NT immunisation records; enrol your child at school. The page provides the AIR statement path and lists the immunization record file entries for preschool / primary school enrollment.
This set of links is a verification map, not legal advice. Before making an appointment, submitting a service, or changing services, open the official page of your state and the service's own enrollment checklist.
Day care / admission document checklist
Dividing the information into three bags: "Government Records", "Medical/Translation Background" and "Service Application" can reduce the need to fill in documents back and forth:
Government Records Bag
- The child's name, date of birth and status are clearly displayed on the [ ] page;
Overseas with provider bag
Service Application Bag
Before submitting, ask the service three final questions:
1. Do you want the current AIR Immunization History Statement, or other approved records listed on the state page? 2. When overseas records have been submitted to the provider but AIR has not been updated, what official interim document do you accept? 3. After the next schedule point, when do I need to submit the Statement again?
